“Wayne, It has been approximately 18 months since we engaged your services to provide design and project management services for the fit out of our new office in the centre of Perth at the Forrest Centre and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the provision of your services.
At the time we sought three roles from you: As interior designer, As the supplier of materials and associated services as specified in the purchase order and your quotation for the partitions and entry statement; and As Project Manager.

As an example,we had already tried the concept of shoji panels in our previous office and you were able to work this into the overall theme and design of the new office while at the same time taking this to a new level by adding the contemporary use of glass partitions with specially designed film that complemented the shoji. This gave the shoji- which can appear classically dated- a contemporary perspective, which has created a balanced yet modern effect that is unique.
We had interviewed other design firms and were of a view that we would be channeled into their thinking and way of doing things and knowing the way that we operate, it was important to find someone that would have empathy without objectives and method of operation.
As you are aware, the entry statement was a complete blank in our thinking and you were able to create a concept design that blended well with the overall office design and created the professional statement that we wanted. This delivered the “wow” factor that I recall you talking to us about at the time.
From the actual fit-out perspective, we were again pleased with your approach and advice in the choice of materials.The project management of this is also something that we were pleased about from different perspectives.
Firstly, because in addition to the contractors you selected, you were also prepared to manage several other contractors that we appointed.
Secondly, because some unexpected events occurred such as discovering parts of the cement floor was uneven which needed grinding down at the eleventh hour and you took time on the weekend to find a contractor that was prepared to work on the weekend to do this.
Thirdly, because contractor dispositions change as Christmas draws near, there is a mindset that exists where contractors will not commit to completing work that starts in the November/December period, which is the date that we started the fit-out. You were able to manage the contractors so that they completed the fit-out prior to Christmas.
We were also pleased with the way you handled matters, which can be summed up as firm but fair. As you are aware, our internal manager for this project, who is our Manager, Client and Business Services, and I believe that a critical success factor was the ability to work together on managing the overall outcomes.
While there were a few variations, these were acceptable and overall, I would say that the project was completed on time and within budget.
The Property Managers of the Forrest Centre – CB Richard Ellis – has candidly stated that our office is the best fit-out in the whole building and the lnsurance Commission itself who own and occupies the building has expressed a similar view.

“I unexpectedly needed to move my large specialist medical practice. The time constraints and problems involved with such a move lead me to expect to close my practice for several months.
I found a new site for the practice and had some basic concepts for the design but realized that it would be almost impossible to complete the design, obtain all the building and council permits then complete construction in the few weeks available until I would be forced to vacate my existing surgery.
Knowing quite a few architects and builders, I asked around and Wayne Ford was strongly recommended by my friends.
At our first meeting, I was impressed by his drive and willingness to attempt the impossible. Within a matter of hours we had a detailed timeline and many of the important decisions were already made.
We started with a few sketch ideas and within 6 weeks Wayne had completed the construction and I had moved in. Amazingly he had created an integrated design complete to the finest details, obtained the necessary clearances and approvals, finished building the surgery and fit out.
This was no small task with 2 reception areas, 5 consulting rooms, 3 patient assessment areas, an operating theatre, a laser treatment room, shower and toilet facilities and a staff kitchen. The complex phone, computer and lighting requirements were all exceeded.
The process began when Wayne spent time assessing my old surgery and facility, after that most of my input involved him ringing me and suggesting a new and better way of doing something, or a more functional design.
My staff and I have been in the new surgery for several months- long enough to detect any problems- and the only changes we would like to make are to slightly relocate 2 power points and 1 phone outlet. This is a major tribute to Wayne’s design and attention to detail.
The quality of the fit out and finish are commented on by visitors every day. Naturally my staff and patients are just as happy with the move as I am. During what could have been a very difficult time for me, Wayne’s cheerful personality, ability and drive made it easy. Nothing was too much trouble.
